The public transport in USA is equipped to help the physically challenged to move around.
There are bus services dedicated for those in wheel chairs. Boarding onto the bus is easy for them as buses were designed with them in mind. By a flick of the switch, the flight of steps becomes a lift and once onboard, designated seats are foldable where they can park their wheel chairs.
Special laws are passed where abled persons are required to give up their seats to them.
All these provide the physically challenged to go as they wish.

Singapore still have a long way to go for providing for the physically challenged,elderly,young,pregnant n the list goes on.
I remember in Sydney,the bus guide for each bus states clearly at what times wheelchair accessible buses come and its easy for parents with prams to board.
The transport fares are not that cheap,yet not that expensive in Singapore.But the most jarring factor is that the planners only seemed to have factored usage of public transport for abled youngsters or adults.Remember it took almost 8yrs,i tink, for them to add station signages in 3 other languages,only after PM Lee took over?A lot of the ramps for wheelchairs or prams are built such that it would take a much longer detour to get to the station level...
On Singapore's public transport facilities,being challenged in any way or the virtue of age does not entitle you to a much needed seat.
Give our nation some more time. She is still growing and maturing. Hopefully, we can see it in our life time.
At least, we are starting now to install ramps and lifts at train stations. Of course much more can be done.
